According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy shot a man on Sunday, who later passed away. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office claims that an armed man who was shot and killed by a deputy Sunday night had made a threat with the deputy’s firearm.
Deputies were called to a home on Reagans Run Drive in Clermont at around 5 o’clock after getting a report of an armed man there. A 49-year-old male who lived in the house, according to a family member, was carrying a gun.
When deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s office, they confronted the man in the backyard. According to John Herrell of the sheriff’s office, “during that confrontation, the man threatened the deputies with the pistol and at that time, the deputies had no choice but to shoot him.”
As the shooting investigation will be handed over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the man’s identification and any other information. According to authorities, neither the other resident of the residence with the suspect nor any deputies were hurt. The deputy who was shot has currently been put on administrative leave.
