TAMPA, Florida – Governor Ron DeSantis will provide at least one $450 check to thousands of Florida families, but which households are eligible? The DeSantis family officially announced last week that 59,000 families throughout the state will receive a one-time payment of $450 per child while on a vacation to Tampa.
According to a statement released on Thursday morning by the Florida Department of Children and Families, “This one-time payment aids families who are being impacted by rising inflation and preparing to send their children back to school.” The cheques will be mailed and “should arrive within the next seven days,” according to officials.
Family checks are funded under the CARES Act.
The subsidies were distributed to each state as part of the American Rescue Plan, also known as the CARES Act, in order to support local economies during the pandemic With requirements for aiding families and people in need, the state was allowed until September to decide how the remaining funds would be used. Florida’s budget for this year includes $35.5 million from the CARES Act that was provided by the state for this use.

local households in need of assistance
Workers at the top non-profit in Hillsborough County that oversees the assistance system stated that this money is urgently required. The Children’s Network of Hillsborough County’s CEO, Nadereh Salim, said that the $450 stipend will go a long way toward helping the kids get ready for school, get the supplies they need, and get the clothing. “As you can imagine, when families are responsible for multiple kids, the burden of providing everything for them just really adds up,” she added.
Many students, she notes, require everything from uniforms to sports equipment, and the funding supplied through the state from the federal CARES Act will allow them to choose what’s most crucial. “The expense of everything has increased. Families now pay far more than they did a few years ago. This will assist them in reducing the cost of the various items that families must purchase for their children in order to get them ready for school, including supplies, clothing, shoes, sporting goods, and school uniforms “added Salim.
The governor’s office posted on social media in the meantime to reassure people that the letters were authentic. The governor’s spokesperson said this week that the letters included with the check are “genuine” and released a picture of one.
