Here we are talking about Orlando Sanchez BJJ Death. Orlando “The Cuban Tree Stump” Sanchez suddenly disappeared on Thursday night. For most of the following day, rumors were circulating in the internet grappling community. His longstanding gym, Gracie Barra, finally verified the awful news early Friday evening via an Instagram post.

The post stated, “The news of Professor Orlando Sanchez’s passing truly saddens us. “We appreciate you being a wonderful friend and one of our best athletes,” They continued by praising Sanchez’s accomplishments as a teacher and a champion athlete.

Sanchez, born on February 5, 1982, tried out several sports as a young person. The Californian allowed alcohol and drugs to significantly influence them during his 20s while playing American football throughout college.

However, with the encouragement of a friend, he discovered BJJ training with Draculino black belt Alberto Crane to be his new passion. In barely three years of training, Sanchez swiftly attained his brown belt and was a formidable opponent.

During this period, he frequently practiced with Gracie Barra trainers, becoming more a part of the group. After being promoted by previous GB instructor José “Zé Radiola” Olmpio, Sanchez officially joined the team as a black belt.

With his victory over Jared Dropp in the ADCC +99kg championship, Sanchez perhaps attained the sport’s highest point in 2015. Sanchez used his trademark strength and pressure to defeat fellow superstars Dean Lister and Vinny Magalhes and bring the Cup home.

In the following years, he would come and go from the news about grappling, most notably tussling with UFC fighter Sean Strickland in 2021 while in training.

Throughout his professional career, Sanchez promoted awareness of mental health issues among sportsmen and spectators. Additionally, Sanchez competed in MMA, finishing 4-0-1 from 2010 to 2015. His wife and three kids are left behind.
