Perry Mason Season 2: In 2020, “Perry Mason” on HBO was among the most fascinating shows ever. The new series is a precursor to the original CBS show set during the Great Depression and stars Raymond Burr as the intimidating criminal defense attorney played by the character in novels by Erle Stanley Gardner.

Emmy winner Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”) plays the title role, a down-and-out private detective in Los Angeles in the year 1932. When we first meet him, he is grumpy, inebriated, and struggling with the residual trauma of the Great War and a ruined marriage. But then he gets engaged for a high-profile case involving the mysterious murder of a little boy named Charlie Dodson, and his life takes an unexpected turn.

Perry Mason Season 2 Storyline

In the first season of “Perry Mason,” creators attempted to offer viewers a better understanding of characters who had been glossed over in prior adaptations. In the first season of the show, outsiders Perry, Paul, and Della took on the system and, in doing so, found themselves or learned what they wanted out of life.

The show is likely to continue focusing on Perry’s passionate quest for justice with folks like Della and Paul now that he is an attorney and has shed some of what was holding him back early on. However, it is not obvious what this would entail.

From what we can gather about the first season, it seems likely that the second will also focus on a single case. However, the show’s central mystery and case were criticized for being underwhelming, so it’s possible that the authors will opt to focus on shorter stories instead.

The second season of “Perry Mason” will reportedly pick up a few months after the conclusion of season one’s pivotal Dodson trial. As the Great Depression continues to ravage the United States, Perry and Della are forced to accept whatever employment they can find, which consists primarily of boring civil cases rather than exciting criminal ones. But when a sensational case that appears to be straightforward to solve and prosecute causes a stir in Los Angeles, Perry is there to take care of it.
