Judge John P. O’Donnell of the Lake County Common Pleas Court gave Richard J. Regovich his oath of office on November 29. He is now the 81st commissioner for Lake County.
Regovich beat Morris Beverage III in the May 3 primary to become the Republican nominee. On November 8, he beat Maureen Kelly, the Democratic candidate, to win the seat, which is for the rest of the term that ends on January 1, 2025.
Regovich was appointed to be the councilman for Willowick’s Ward I. He has also been the city’s mayor for the past six years. The last day he worked in that job was November 28. Regovich thanked the people of Lake County in the chambers of the Lake County Administration Center and said he would keep working hard for them.
Regovich said, “It took about a year of campaigning, and I’m very grateful to the voters for giving me the chance to serve this great county full of great people.” “I liked being mayor. It seems strange that I’m not in that job anymore, but I’m looking forward to my new job and to a bright future for Lake County.
He also said, “Together, we move forward.” “I’m happy and proud to be here. It’s an honor to be here.” Regovich, who is 55 years old, was born and raised in Willowick. He went to high school at Eastlake North. He went to Lakeland Community College after that.
Regovich and his wife Lynn have been married for 33 years. Brian, their 22-year-old son, is in graduate school at Baldwin Wallace University right now. Their 20-year-old daughter Lizzie goes to the University of Mount Union.

John Hamercheck, the commissioner, said that he is looking forward to seeing how much knowledge and experience Regovich brings to the job. “Rich has been a great mayor. He has worked hard and been loyal to the community, and I think that shows a lot about his character,” he said.
Regovich started Willowick Hearts and Hammers, a volunteer group that helps Willowick homeowners make repairs that are needed for safety. He has also served on the Willowick Planning Commission and the Willowick Charter Review Committee.
He also volunteered at many community events and was in charge of safety. Mark Tyler, the commissioner, said that Regovich’s continued service to others will make a big difference.
“There are a lot of ways to help our residents, and I’m excited to work with Rich to make them happen,” Tyler said. “His past work in local government will help him adjust, and I’m sure he’ll enjoy the ride.”
