Roger Whittaker was born on 22 March 1936. He is a musician and singer-songwriter who is British and Kenyan. His sound combines popular music, folk music, and songs that have been played on the radio in an eclectic way. His distinctive whistling style, baritone vocal range, and guitar prowess are his most well-known attributes.
His best-known pieces are “Durham Town (The Leavin’)” (1969) and “I Don’t Believe in ‘If’ Anymore” (1970). His 1970 hit song “New World in the Morning” and his 1975 hit song “The Last Farewell” are the ones that American audiences are most familiar with. His only single to reach both the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 and the top spot on the Ad*lt Contemporary chart is “The Last Farewell.” “Albany,” his last number-one hit in West Germany, peaked in 1982.
A group of four men viciously attacked Whittaker’s parents on April 1, 1989, while they were still living in Kenya. They killed his father and tortured his mother for eight hours. After the event, his mother went back to England.
Roger married Natalie O’Brien in August 1964. Roger had met her in 1964. She has been Whittaker’s manager since 1989. Their brood consists of three daughters (Alexandra, Lauren, Guy, and Jessica) and two boys. Jessica started working as a VH-1 host. They currently have eleven grandkids.
