Nicolas Entel and Miguel Tejada Flores are the minds behind the creation of the Mexican horror fiction streaming television series S.O.Z. Soldados o Zombies, which is also known in English as S.O.Z. During this time, the carcasses of piglets that had been used in a botched military experiment in the United States are dumped along the border, where they are later reanimated as mutant zombies. The experiment had gone wrong. The Mexican special forces team that was searching for Alonso and his kid became infected by mutant zombies and transformed into an army of zombies as a result of their quest. The United States Army, having been made aware of the imminent danger that this new species poses for civilization, sets out on a quest to eradicate them in order to protect humankind.
S.O.Z. Soldiers Or Zombies Season 1 Review
This review of the first season of Soldados o Zombies on Amazon does not include any plot details from the show. The eight episodes that make up the first season of Amazon’s S.O.Z. Soldados o Zombies are true to the show’s name. Both troops and zombies appear in the vast majority of the show’s fifteen-minute episodes. The show’s creators, Nicolas Entel and Miguel Tejada-Flores aim to merge three distinct yet well-recognized cultural phenomena: zombies, drug lords, and the United States military.
It has a Narcos-like feel at moments. There are brief instances where S.O.Z. echoes The Walking Dead and other undead media, although the show doesn’t seem particularly interested in doing so. The series, which is essentially a hodgepodge of a script and the actors’ best attempts at improvising, succeeds only when its producers and viewers stop taking themselves and the tale seriously. Instead, everyone can enjoy themselves by watching as swine along the Mexican border are turned into murderous killers.
S.O.Z. Soldados o Zombies is set in the New Mexico desert and features numerous gangs and other dangerous organizations. Alonso Marroqun (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) and his cartel business partners, the aforementioned killer pigs and their annoying scientist, the United States military, a rogue journalist, Lilia Acal Prado (Fátima Molina), and a DEA agent with another convict, who happens to be Marroqun’s brother, all converge on this small stretch of land. Many of these people want to retrieve the mutant, zombie-like pigs that have begun turning those trying to cross the border into an army, while others want to interrogate or kill Marroqun.
If it sounds convoluted, it is; Entel and Tejada-Flores have a hard time giving any of the stories any real momentum, bouncing back and forth between groups of people holed up in hotels, jails, and a drug lord’s paradise appropriately named “Paradise.” Peris-charisma Mencheta’s as the story’s focal point is enough to keep you interested to a certain extent, but none of the other characters receives a backstory or even any meaty sequences to extend their own pasts. The rest of S.O.Z.’s entertainment value comes from the film’s sheer lunacy, which veers between overtly campy sequences and more elaborate special effects, such as helicopters crashing into buildings while the characters talk gibberish.
