Aryna Sabalenka’s Boyfriend Koltsov Dies
Aryna Sabalenka’s partner and former ice hockey player from Belarus, Konstantin Koltsov, has died at the age of 42.
The news was revealed by the Russian club Salavat Yulaev in a statement on Tuesday, but no cause of death was given. Koltsov was in Florida to support his girlfriend Sabalenka, who is playing in the Miami Open after the Indian Wells Open, where she was a big star.
Koltsov, a forward, played for the Belarus national team in two Olympics, in 2002 and 2010. He also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL for three seasons, from 2002 to 2006.
Salavat Yulaev said in the statement, “It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that the coach of Salavat Yulaev, Konstantin Koltsov, has passed away.”
“He was a strong and cheerful person, he was loved and respected by players, colleagues, and fans. Konstantin Evgenievich forever wrote himself into the history of our club. May he rest in peace.”
Also, the Penguins said in a statement, “The Penguins send their deepest condolences to Konstantin Koltsov’s family and friends.”
“The native of Belarus was the Penguins’ first-round draft choice in 1999 and was with the team from 2003-2006, playing 144 NHL games. Konstantin was a teammate of both Sidney Crosby and Mario Lemieux during the 2005-06 season.”
Koltsov was famous for how fast he was on the ice. He played for Belarus in the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002 and Vancouver in 2010.
Aryna Sabalenka And Konstantin Koltsov’s Relationship
Reports say that Sabalenka and Koltsov started dating in June 2021, and the two of them are often seen together on the world number two’s Instagram account.
In a past post, Sabalenka said, “I love you @koltsov2021. Happy birthday my love. You are my dearest person, my best friend, and my strongest support. Peace be with you, strength, patience, and health. I hope we will have everything we planned I love you.”
When Sabalenka won her second straight Australian Open title in Melbourne in January of this year, Koltsov was spotted by fans cheering for her.
