Sarah Young’s spiritual books and diaries have made her a New York Times bestseller. Over 40 million copies of her religious works, including Jesus Listens and Jesus Calling, have been sold worldwide. Jesus Calling, her first novel, has already been included on all of the best-seller lists.
Sarah’s devotional writings are the product of her daily Bible study, prayer, and journaling about her spiritual experiences. She spent many years serving as a missionary in Australia and Japan with her husband, Stephen Young.
Stephen was born in Tokyo, while Sarah was born in Tennessee, both in the United States. They met when they were both students at Covenant Seminary and tied the knot in 1977, shortly after they graduated. Sarah and Steve Young have two married children and four cherished grandkids.
Sarah and Steve are members of the Presbyterian Church of America, and they have spent almost eight years in Japan, founding churches via World Presbyterian Missions and Mission To the World. In 1987, they joined forces with the Westminster Japanese Church in Atlanta, Georgia, to serve the Mission To North America.

Sarah Young has set a remarkable example for other authors by creating a recognizable brand without promoting her own book releases or participating in author interviews. Her publicist also handles all of her interview questions fielding through email. That’s how quietly she participates in the media. However, there are a few explanations for this.
Check out this tweet on Sarah Young’s fight against Lyme disease- “Hi everybody. Instead of my regular scripture posting, I am asking for prayer for my sweet friend, Sarah Young, who has probably blessed many of you with her writings based on Jesus’ Calling. Sarah is seldom available since she lives in a somewhat isolated part of Perth. In addition, she has Lyme disease, which has been widely publicized. Since she contracted Lyme disease in the United States in 2009, she has been fighting it ever since.
She spent six months in the United States receiving intense medical care. Sarah’s health did not improve much despite having these costly therapies for many months. She has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and has also been experiencing severe dizziness.
Lyme disease is an infectious bacterial disease spread to humans by the bites or stings of an infected tick. Severe joint pain, a rash, a headache, a fever, exhaustion, and enlarged lymph nodes are all possible symptoms. Antibiotics may remedy this condition, although you may still feel some aftereffects.
There are around 30,000 annual cases of Lyme disease reported in the United States alone to the CDC. Jesus Today, written by Sarah Young, is another in her series of holy books, and it was motivated by her struggles with various illnesses.
The author states that she is certain she would never have written these works if she had been well. Her struggle with despair and subsequent rise to optimism is the subject of these works.
“After recovering from disease, she said Thank you so much for all your prayers in response to my recent request! Your comments are very meaningful to me, and they are sustaining me during this difficult time.
This will be a long journey as I am now battling side effects from the treatment. I would appreciate your continued prayers that side effects will diminish and this treatment will be fully effective. I will continue to keep you updated when there is something new to share.
Please know I am praying for each of you to have a peaceful and blessed Christmas. Let’s rejoice in the birth of our Savior, who is Immanuel–God with us.
Bountiful blessings!
Sarah Young”
