Six episodes will follow Ralph and Katie Wilson as they adjust to life as a married couple and deal with the issues they face at home. There will be six episodes in all, each one focused on a different aspect of Ralph and Katie Wilson’s life as a married couple. The A Word spin-off Ralph & Katie is now filming in Manchester and the Lake District, according to BBC One.
In each of the six episodes, a fresh storey focuses on the home obstacles experienced by Ralph and Katie Wilson — “issues faced by many newlyweds, but with an added ingredient in the mix being that the couple have Down’s syndrome,” according to the BBC.
In addition to Sarah Gordy and Leon Harrop, Pooky Quesnel returns as Ralph’s mother Louise, Nigel Betts and Sherry Baines return as Katie’s parents Steve and Clare, and Matt Greenwood reprises his role as Tom. Scribe of the A-word The show’s original creator, Peter Bowker, is back as the show’s primary writer, and the scripts have been written entirely by new and emerging disabled authors.
Writers like Amy Trigg, Annalisa Dinnella, Genevieve Barr, Tom Wentworth, and Lizzie Watson comprise this year’s class.
While filming had only begun, Bowker noted, “The writing team has provided a genuine and joyful set of screenplays.” Jordan Hogg, the director, and his incredible ensemble, will do an amazing job bringing these characters to life.
“We’re beginning on something that’s never been attempted in our profession, we’re altering the world,” Hogg, a BAFTA-winning series director, said.
