Over the weekend, a mother in Florida was fatally sh0t by her neighbour in what is being called a “neighbourhood feud” over the victim’s children. On Monday, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods told reporters that deputies went to a trespassing call at a property in Ocala late on Friday night and found a lady with gunshot wounds.
FOX35 Orlando stated that the woman, later named Ajike “AJ” Shantrell Owens, was brought to the hospital, where she ultimately d!ed. According to officials, the unnamed neighbour claims self-defence under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” statute and has not been detained or charged with a crime.

Woods stated, “We know that this has been a neighbourhood feud over time,” adding that both Owens and the gunman had called authorities to express displeasure with Owens’ offspring.
Woods said the sh00ting appeared to occur after an altercation between the neighbour and Owens’ children. However, he did not know for sure because the circumstances of the shooting were still being investigated.

According to Woods, Owens addressed the neighbour after learning that one of her children had been hit by an object thrown by the neighbour. Woods claims the subsequent incident between Owens and the neighbour was “aggressive,” with possible door-banging and threatening words. Woods has stated that more research on these allegations is ongoing.
The neighbour then opened fire on Owens, striking him many times. The sheriff expressed regret that the shooter hadn’t contacted law enforcement before resorting to violence. “I wish Mrs Owens had called in the hopes that we could have avoided getting to this point today,” she said.
The Owens family has hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who has issued a statement claiming that the neighbour, a 58-year-old White woman, yelled at the children to “get off her land” and used racial insults. According to Woods, the inquiry will involve interviewing the kids for additional details.
