Shou Zi Chew is a household name thanks to his position as CEO of Xiaomi, a major player in China’s smartphone market. While Shou Zi Chew’s career is well-documented, less is known about his private life.
After graduating from Hwa Chong, he entered the Singapore Military Forces and eventually became an officer (NS). He fulfilled his patriotic duty by serving in the military and then went on to study economics at University College London.
In London, Chew joined Goldman Sachs as an investment banker after he had served in the Singaporean military for some time. Chew did an internship for Facebook after finishing his Master of Business Administration at Harvard.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Chew is a “China-focused partner” at DST Global, having worked his way up through the ranks thanks to his command of Mandarin. Chew was one of the company’s earliest investors in 2013 when he was serving as a group leader at ByteDance.

Before joining ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, Chew worked for the Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi, where he served as CFO, among other roles. The House Energy and Commerce Committee issued a subpoena to Chew to question him on “customer privacy and data security protocols,” the platforms’ effects on children, and the companies’ ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

On March 23, Chew testified before a congressional hearing for the first time on the app. Members of Congress from both major political parties have called for a ban on the popular video-sharing software TikTok. Several people in the United States are worried that China would gain access to their private information through the app.
Several people who listened to the proceedings were interested in learning more about the CEO and his family even as he testified for several hours. The wife of Shou Zi Chew is… Let’s run down what we know thus far.
Shou Zi Chew Wife
After TikTok’s original CEO stepped down in 2021, Shou was promoted to the position of chief executive officer. He met his future wife, Vivian Kao, in 2008 while they were both students at Harvard Business School; he is a native Singaporean. Vivian, a native American of Taiwanese descent, is a financial analyst by trade. She serves as a non-executive director for the Hong Kong-based financial services provider Sun Hung Kai & Co on an impartial basis.
While being on the board of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, Vivian serves as CEO and principal of Tamarind Global. Before continuing her education at Harvard for her MBA, she completed her undergraduate degree in economics and Chinese studies at the university. Although she and her husband are obviously wealthy, they have largely avoided the spotlight up until Shou’s appearance before Congress.
Do They Have Children?
The CEO recently revealed that the couple has two young children, ages eight and six, albeit the identities of the youngsters are unknown. The businessman disclosed the ages of his children in an interview conducted in March 2023 and explained that they are “too young for that” to use TikTok.
He went on to say that in many countries, users under the age of 13 are not permitted at all, and that “TikTok here in the US if you are below 13, you get a very constrained version of TikTok.” He continued by saying that he was powerless to prevent children from using TikTok under the law.
