Unless you were living under a rock in the ’90s, you undoubtedly saw a Whoopi Goldberg movie or TV show. Goldberg, who is currently best known as a co-host on The View, was a leading actress in hit films such as The Color Purple, Ghost, and The Lion King more than 30 years ago. As she was not nominated for an Academy Award, she hosted the show. Now, thanks in part to Tyler Perry’s invincibility, Goldberg will play the character again in Sister Act 3.
Goldberg has acted in a number of critically acclaimed films, but her character in Sister Act is likely her most recognisable. After witnessing her mob-connected boyfriend Vince LaRocca (Harvey Keitel) murder an informant, lounge singer Deloris Wilson (Whoopi Goldberg) goes into hiding. Deloris, pretending to be a nun, helps revive the choir at a convent.
The film’s worldwide box office earnings were over $230 million (via Box Office Mojo). The next year, a sequel was made because of the film’s success; however, Sister Act 2 bombed at the box office and was widely panned by reviewers (via Rotten Tomatoes).
After 30 years (and a successful Broadway musical based on the movie), Disney+ is bringing back the series. Disney tweeted in December that production on Sister Act 3 was “in process,” with Goldberg and Perry serving as co-producers with Perry is set to reprise her role as Debra.
Sister Act 3 Storyline
There is a lot of mystery about the storyline of the upcoming sequel. At the conclusion of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, Deloris prevented St. Francis Academy from being shut down by winning first place in a choral competition; however, it is currently unknown how the third chapter will continue from that point forth.
We do know that the writers and producers of Insecure, Karin Gist and Regina Hicks, will be working on the script for the third movie.
We are aware of a number of possible titles for the film, despite the fact that the plot details have not yet been determined. During their appearance on The Late Show in December, Goldberg and Stephen Colbert came up with a number of potential subtitles for the film. Some of these include “Oh My God It Still Fits,” “Backer in the Habit,” and “Blacker in the Habit.”

Sister Act 3 Release Date
When is Sister Act 3 coming out? This is likely the very first concern on many fans’ thoughts now that we know a third Sister Act movie will be released to finally wrap up the trilogy.
Because the movie’s official development only started in the middle of December 2020, it is difficult to predict when it will be released. It’s safe to presume the movie won’t premiere until 2022 at the earliest given that the project was only recently announced and that filming won’t begin until later in 2021.

The Cast of Sister Act 3
The comedic aspects of Sister Act were given a “huge lift” by the performances of Mary Wickes as the cynical Sister Mary Lazarus and Kathy Najimy as the upbeat Sister Mary Patrick. On the other hand, Maggie Smith’s “excellent performance” as Mother Superior provided the film with the “necessary warmth.” Who could ever forget the legendary dancing performance that Kathy Najimy gave to “Gravy” by Dee Dee Sharp?
Wickes lost away in 1995, which is a terrible loss. Najimy, who will also be participating in the upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel, stated earlier this month on The Jess Cagle Show on Sirius XM that she is open to the possibility of playing a role in the Hocus Pocus sequel’s sequel.

How Can I watch Sister Act 3?
We already know that Disney Plus will air the third instalment, so be sure to subscribe in advance so that you can watch it with us when it airs.
We could always watch the first two seasons of Sister Acts or switch to a new show, maybe something romantic, in place of Sister Act 3. If you like sentimental TV series, Memories of Alhambra is the one for you.
