Officers are reportedly on the site of an ongoing investigation near Surfside Beach, according to the Horry County Police Department. Highway 17 Business near 17th Avenue North is restricted to traffic in both directions, the HCPD said at about 9:10 p.m. on Sunday. An update from the police about an hour later stated that the subject of the inquiry was a person who was barricaded.

HCPD reported that the person fired a weapon “early in the incident” at midnight on Monday. According to officials who indicated that authorities are working to defuse the situation, there is no risk to the neighborhood. Nobody seems to have been wounded in the shooting. There were no quick updates regarding the investigation’s nature.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes. People nearby may observe HCPD (Facebook Page) officers and South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers.
