Tanner Horner Lake: Tanner Lynn Horner, age 31, is being charged with aggravated kidnapping and capital murder in relation to the kidnapping and killing of a 7-year-old child named Athena Strand, whose body was discovered on Friday night. The accusations stem from the fact that Athena was found dead.
Athena Strand went missing from her residence in Paradise, which is located in Wise County, on Wednesday. This prompted a significant search effort that included around 200 volunteers from the local community. Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin stated during a press conference on Friday evening that Horner admitted to killing the 7-year-old girl. Akin added that Horner made the confession to him.

Tanner Horner Lake: Horner is a self-employed worker who formerly volunteered their services to FedEx. According to the authorities, they quickly learned that the FedEx delivery guy had gone to the Strand’s home around the time that Athena went missing, and they collaborated with FedEx in order to identify and locate him.
After he was hauled into custody, he allegedly confessed to the authorities that he had kidnapped and murdered the young girl who was seven years old. After that, he pointed the officers in the direction of her body. Athena’s body was discovered roughly ten miles away from the location where she was initially reported missing, to the southeast of Boyd. Initially, the authorities were given a false lead as to where to recover her body.

According to FBI Agent Jim Dwyer, the investigators believe Strand passed away around an hour after being abducted, and they have digital evidence and statements to support this belief. According to the police, Horner is from Lake Worth and does not appear to have any prior criminal history; however, Lake Worth Police Chief J.T Manoushagian tweeted late Friday night that Horner does not reside in the city. According to the police, Horner does not appear to have any previous criminal history.
FedEx has issued a statement in which they express their condolences to the family and affirm that they are fully cooperating with the investigation being conducted by law enforcement. “Our disbelief and anguish at the news of this terrible tragedy cannot be adequately expressed through language. During this extremely trying time, our thoughts are with the family, and we are continuing to cooperate fully with the authorities who are conducting the investigation.
At this time, you should direct any further inquiries to the appropriate law enforcement officials.” Horner is currently being held in lieu of a $1.5 million bond and is being held at the local jail. It was not made clear whether or not he was represented by an attorney who could speak on his behalf, and this information was not made available.
