That 90s Show Season 2: Most TV programs in the 1990s weren’t serialized stories. Every program’s purpose was syndication, and broadcast networks were still in charge. Non-sequential story-telling was the norm for sitcoms. Even though That ’90s Show seems to copy the sitcom style of That ’70s Show, Season 1 has a rather exciting storyline and a clear conclusion. Should Netflix produce more seasons of That ’90s Show, plenty of loose ends may be picked up again.
There are Season 1 spoilers for That ’90s Show below. The first season of That ’90s Show featured several key firsts in Leia Forman’s life and was set during the summer of 1995. She had her first kiss, boyfriend, and break up while spending the summer in Wisconsin with her grandparents. She also learned about drinking beer and becoming high. Even her first car was provided to her.
Leia, however, never anticipated another first that was added in the Season 1 finale: her first experience falling in love with someone else’s man. She and Jay Kelso’s BFF Nate (Gwen’s brother, who has been dating Nikki for months) had a furious exchange when Jay Kelso broke up with her before she left. Gwen advised Leia to let it go since she was going back to Chicago. Season 2 may be pretty dramatic, though, with Jay hoping she’ll come back next summer so they can get back together and her grandparents anxious to welcome her once more.
Here’s what we know about a possible renewal so far.
That 90s Show Season 2 Renewal Status
Netflix usually gives a show about a month to stream before deciding whether or not to keep it. The first episode of That ’90s Show came out on Thursday, January 19, so fans probably won’t find out if Season 2 is happening until mid-to-late February 2023.
But it’s pretty easy to make a sitcom. Each one is only 30 minutes long, and everything happens on a soundstage. There are no CGI fantasy characters. Season 1 was announced in the fall of 2021, and it took four months to film. Compared to The Witcher or The Umbrella Academy, which each takes nearly a year to make, it’s not a big deal for Netflix to keep making more.

That 90s Show Season 2 Cast
If That ’90s Show comes back, there will have to be at least a few of the same characters. Callie Haverda will have to come back as Leia Forman, and so will Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp as her grandparents, Red and Kitty Forman. It would also be nice if her parents, Donna and Eric, played by Laura Prepon and Topher Grace, made guest appearances. However, this is probably not a must.
Fans would also like to see Leia’s basement group back. This includes Ashley Aufderheide as Leia’s best friend, Gwen Runck, Maxwell Acee Donovan as her brother Nate, Sam Morelos as Nate’s girlfriend, Nikki, Mace Coronel as Nate’s best friend, Jay and Reyn Doi as the indispensable Ozzie.
Andrea Anders, who plays Nate and Gwen’s mom Sherri, and Wilmer Valderrama, who plays her boyfriend Fez, could also come back. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis could appear as Michael and Jackie, Jay’s parents. Tommy Chong could play Leo, the stoner next door. Don Stark could play Bob, Leia’s other grandparent, and Jim Rash could play Fenton, the Runcks’ landlord.
That 90s Show Season 2 Plot
Since Leia coming to visit is a summer activity, she would probably come back at the end of the school year in June 1996, when the second season starts. The show could do much more with that than add to the drama between Leia, Jay, Nate, and Nikki. In the summer of 1996, the big Independence Day movie came out. That summer, the Macarena was the most popular song, and Beanie Babies and Tickle Me Elmo was everywhere.
That 90s Show Season 2 Trailer
Since the show hasn’t been renewed yet, it’s hard to say when it will return. But if Netflix keeps to its usual schedule and announces Season 2 by the middle of February, filming could start as early as the summer. That would ensure that there would be trailers by the end of the year and a second season at the start of 2024.
The first season of That ’90s Show is on Netflix.
