CHICAGO (WLS) — On Friday night, authorities in Chicago reported that a little kid, aged 13, had been shot dead at a park located on the city’s North Side.
The identity of the young kid has been revealed to be that of Lavell Winslow, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Lavell’s mother, Vanessa Winslow, praised her son by saying, “He was a bright young man, bright future.”
He was the youngest of her five children, which meant he was the baby.
She claimed that her kid was at Lerner Park with some pals when he was struck by a bullet to the head.
According to the statements made by the police, the shooting took place near Lerner Park in the 7000 block of North Sacramento Avenue in the West Ridge neighbourhood at about 10 p.m.
An off-duty police officer was nearby when the shot was fired, and he spotted a number of teenagers fleeing the area.
The youngster was discovered by the police sitting on a park bench with a head wound consistent with a gunshot. He was in critical condition when he arrived at St. Francis Hospital, but he did not survive his stay there.

“He was never a troubled child and never a member of a gang. Simply by associating himself with the incorrect company, “Vanessa said.
According to Lavell’s mother, he received A’s and B’s while attending West Ridge Elementary School.
The student in the eighth grade has only recently been promoted to a more difficult level of mathematics, and after finishing high school, he plans to pursue a career in the field of computing.
“He had a lot of untapped promise. He was going to have a successful future “Vaness asserted.
The police are still looking for the person who fired the shots, and there has been no information of any arrests.
Lavell is one of three children who have been slain and 12 children who have been shot so far this month, according to data obtained by ABC7.
Parents who have suffered the loss of children as a result of gun violence attended the “Save the Children Conference” on Saturday in order to bring awareness to what they refer to as an epidemic in Chicago.
According to the event’s organisers, the purpose of the gathering was to brainstorm workable solutions that could put a stop to the senseless killings.
