The Mount Dora Police Chase Ends With A Crash Into A Synagogue And Gunfire

After spotting a vehicle listed as sought in a national BOLO, Lake County officers conducted a traffic stop (Be On the Look Out). Just before 5 o’clock, the police attempted to stop the car by using their lights; however, the suspect allegedly fled down State Road 441. After a brief pursuit, the man entered his car and drove into a nearby synagogue on Donnelly Street, according to authorities. Asher Wildman of Spectrum News 13 was given a description of the situation by LT. John Harrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

“Once he crashed, he started firing at the Mount Dora police officer and deputies from the driver side of his car, and they retaliated by firing back,” “Harrell spoke of the event. “The suspect vehicle sped through Mount Dora on State Road 441. went to Limit Avenue and moved in the direction of Donnelly Street; during that time, the suspect fired at least once at the pursuing deputy from outside his driver-side window. The identify of the suspect has not been made public. This story was contributed to by reporter Ashleigh Mills.

The suspect opened fire on officers after getting out of the vehicle, but at least one responding officer shot the suspect, who was then flown to an area hospital with several gunshot wounds, according to officials. One neighbor reported hearing what she thought were 15 gunfire, which terrified her.
