The Federal Aviation Administration reported on Saturday that a worker suffered a fatal injury on the ramp at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama, where an American Airlines regional carrier flight was parked. The airport is located in Alabama.
An investigation will be conducted by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board about an event that took place while an Embraer E175 belonging to American Airlines Flight 3408 was parked at the gate after arriving from Dallas. Following the incident, the FAA announced that the airport would be closed.
According to two individuals briefed on the situation, the preliminary investigation suggests that the employee was killed in an accident involving one of the airplane’s engines that was running while it was in motion.
Envoy Air, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group, was the airline in charge of the flight.

Piedmont Airlines is another American regional subsidiary. The airport said a ground crew worker with the airline had been slain, but they did not provide further details.
It was verified that a Piedmont employee was engaged in the incident, and American issued a statement expressing its utter devastation at the news.
“We are focused on ensuring that everyone involved has the assistance they need during this terrible time,” the airline said, declining to comment further on the continuing inquiry. “We are committed to ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time.”
