A tragic car accident outside a preschool in Texas has claimed the life of a young teacher, leaving a community mourning and several others injured.
Accident Occurs During Holiday Pickup
The incident happened on Thursday, Dec. 19, during holiday pickup at the Excelled Montessori Plus preschool and daycare in Bexar County. Parents and children were leaving the premises after a festive performance when disaster struck. According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a parent, after loading her children into the car, suddenly accelerated.
The vehicle hit another car and crashed through a fence. On the other side of the fence, children were playing, watched over by faculty members. The chain of events led to several injuries and the tragic death of Alexia Rosales, a 22-year-old teacher beloved by the school community.
Emergency Response and Investigation
First responders quickly arrived at the scene and began to work frantically to free those affected. Firefighters worked to extricate Rosales, who was pinned under one of the vehicles, using hydraulic tools. Despite the efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Five children were transported to the hospital with varying levels of injury. Three of them were treated and discharged the same day. Another teacher and several other individuals were also treated at local hospitals. In total, 10 people received care at the scene for minor injuries or shock.
The driver, who is believed to have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash, was not seriously injured. Authorities said intoxication or criminal intent is not suspected. Investigations continue into whether any medical condition may have directly contributed to the tragedy.
Remembering a Devoted Teacher
Alexia Rosales, one of the victims, had been remembered as a committed educator who brought vibrancy into many lives at Excelled Montessori Plus. Her colleagues recall her as a ray of happiness and warmth, lighting up any room with a smile.
“Her love for the children and the school was immeasurable,” the institution said in a statement. “Alexia brought a sense of home to our school. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts.” •
Following the accident, the school has rallied around Rosales’s family. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help with funeral costs and other expenses. •
The tragedy sends a grim reminder of how fragile life can be, and it requires community support in such time of loss. While police investigations are underway, the community stands in unison to remember Alexia and continue to support all those touched by this horrific incident.
She will be remembered as that rare teacher who cared for her students in ways most teachers don’t.
