Florida’s WEST PALM BEACH — A woman is in critical condition after a freight train struck her vehicle in West Palm Beach on Wednesday night. Before 5:30 p.m., a collision happened at the railroad crossing on Quadrille Boulevard and Fern Street.

The driver, a lady in her 60s, was freed from the car and sent to the hospital in “extremely severe condition,” according to West Palm Beach police. Several ambulances were in the area, according to witnesses. One witness claimed that the train “ploughed into a car” when describing the incident.

A resident of downtown West Palm Beach remarked, “And I heard all the ambulances passing by… it was truly like a zoo.. it was like a carnival going by.” For several hours, the area’s traffic was disrupted. “To give you some context, I needed to get something notarized, which required a 5-minute walk across the tracks. Instead, driving across the entire city took an hour and a half “a different local said.

The train involved in the incident is not a Brightline train, according to officials, despite the fact that it happened close to the Brightline train station. The Brightline train schedule is unaffected. This is the seventh train and car collision in West Palm Beach so far this year, according to the website of the Federal Railroad Administration. We’ll update this developing story as new details come to light.
