Season 1 of ABC’s True Beauty reality television series is called True Beauty. The participants are vying for the title of “most beautiful” in this pageant. They, on the other hand, believe that they are only being judged on their appearance. Nolé Marin, Cheryl Tiegs, and Vanessa Minnillo are the three judges that evaluate the contestants’ inner beauty. People magazine’s “100 most attractive people issue” is the prize for the winners of the $100,000 competition.
The Tyra Banks and Ashton Kutcher-created show launched on ABC on January 5th, 2009 under the executive producers’ direction. As a result of her friends and her family’s disapproval of her appearance, 18-year-old high school student I’m Ju-Kyung (Moon Ga-young) has endured years of bullying and discrimination. Initially, she learns how to apply make-up by watching tutorials on YouTube. When she learns the technique right before she moves to a new school, her transformation into a “goddess” proves to be transformative.

True Beauty Kdrama Season 2 Storyline
True Beauty is an entertaining Korean television series. With plenty of humor, romance and drama, you’ll be enthralled from beginning to end by this k-drama adventure. Although the Director’s last work, Extraordinary You, was a huge success, this program is plagued with clichés and tropes, aiming to rekindle that success but not quite as well.
True Beauty is based on the webcomic Yeoshingangrim and follows Ju-Kyung, a high school student. In the wake of being teased and expelled from school because of the way she looked, Ju-Kyung eventually finds herself on the internet, where she discovers how to apply make-up quickly and easily. A more attractive Ju-Kyung enrolls at a new school where she becomes embroiled in a love triangle with bad guy Seo-Joon and quiet but kind-hearted Soo-Ho.
For most of the season, Soo-Ho and Seo-relationship Joon’s grows stronger as the show proceeds. Se-Yeon, a previous teammate of these two, has a dark past involving the two of them. In the wake of a tragic occurrence, Seo-Joon and Soo-Ho decide to cut all ties and develop a chilly disdain for one another. Adding Ju-Kyung to the mix further heightens the tension between them.
In the end, it all culminates in a time jump, which throws off some of the show’s sharper storytelling from the first half. There are some bumps along the way, but the last episode does a wonderful job of tying up all the loose ends. Hee-Kyung and Joon-reversal Woo’s role romance — between Ju-Kyung and Hee-sister Kyung’s and instructor – is enough to make up for some of this, thankfully. Soo-Jin, Ju-best Kyung’s friend, is still hung up on her love interest, Soo-Ho, in other subplots. A lot happens to her character, but I don’t think it always works as well as it should for me.
These two plays have a lot in common because they were both directed by the same person. Rather than the self-aware humor in that show, True Beauty focuses on topics like bullying, the meaning of beauty, and cosmetics. It’s a solid concept, and even if the latter episodes dumb it down and fix things fairly quickly, the kind intentions are surely worth appreciating. True Beauty, like Start-Up last year, is a show that entirely divides its fan base. Even with half of its viewers pulling for Seo-Joon, this one was always going to disappoint a large group of fans.
While True Beauty does its best to please the other half of the fans, it almost does more harm than good by committing a full episode to fan service at the end. This narratively doesn’t work, and the show would have been stronger if it had stayed true to its core beliefs. After a few bumps in the road, True Beauty comes to a satisfying conclusion with a beautiful little bow at the end of the story. To be fair, this is a lighthearted show that won’t win any prizes, but there are enough chuckles to keep you entertained.
