Misha Green and Joe Pokaski’s historical drama Underground, set in pre-Civil War Georgia, tells the story of the Underground Railroad. The show premiered on WGN America on March 9, 2016. When WGN renewed the show for a second season on April 25, 2016, the show premiered on March 8, 2017. WGN started on May 30th, 2017, when the show had been canceled after two seasons.
The network’s parent business, Tribune Media, attempted to be purchased by the conservative Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which sparked speculation that Sinclair did not approve of the show’s content. Underground Season 3 Storyline
A John Brown soldier approaches Harriet Tubman’s secret home as the film “Soldier” opens. He briefs Harriet on the plans for the raid on Harper’s Ferry, which involve arming slaves on the nearby plantations. Harriet agrees with the dangerous yet brave venture, but she is surprised when Brown invites her to join him.
The five members of Daniel’s family are gathered in Ohio to plead for help in locating and rescuing his family in Kentucky. Everyone is on board with the escape plot until they learn that Daniel was blinded with lye for teaching his fellow enslaved people how to read. Rosalee and Georgia, on the other hand, grudgingly agree to a fight between Elizabeth and Noah.
Using John Brown’s troops and other abolitionists, Elizabeth and Noah devise a plan to raid the plantations surrounding Daniel’s in order to steal his family and friends without being detected. Because of Daniel’s newborn, this is going to be a difficult rescue. The crew concludes that in order for the plan to succeed, they must return across the river in five hours or less.

In the meantime, Cato seemed to have taken a break from Patty and her crew. A room full of redheaded Caucasian women is where we find Cato, clearly conspiring and strategizing. Patty Cannon, he tells her while she’s getting ready, is the name he’s given her. Cato, what have you been up to?
August and Ernestine had arrived back in Georgia from the South, where they had been living. As August makes his way to his house, we hear that his wife and his longtime slave, Jay, have both passed away. Assuming that his son is still hospitalized, we can only speculate where he is. Ernestine sees his plight and gives him a taste of her devil’s potion, which he accepts.
Indulging herself, Ernestine makes her way to the Macon Plantation through the wide cotton fields after he has passed out. The two of them watch in disbelief as August finally catches up to her as she stands in front of the mansion. Only charred pieces of wood remain where the once-mighty edifice stood. Later, August awakens with a gun to his head, and Ernestine sees him. Forgiveness is the only way he can move forward, she assures him.
In Kentucky, Noah, Elizabeth, and the rest of the team are scurrying between the three plantations they’ve acquired across the river. One of the plantation owners untied himself and kidnapped a house girl, despite Noah’s efforts to free Daniel’s sleeping baby. Elizabeth takes matters into her own hands and blows the master’s head off while the men debate what to do.
Elizabeth has had enough, y’all. She’s through. After reaching Daniel and his family, the party must re-arm and cross the river with the help of their improvised weapons. Although a large number of the survivors, including Noah and Elizabeth, return safely to Ohio, their triumph is not without cost.
Georgia is also having problems in the midst of all of this. Patty Cannon has arrived to claim her Black Rose and has already begun setting the property ablaze to gain entrance. Georgia and the guys manage to keep her at bay for a while, but she eventually makes it into the house. In the midst of it all, Rosalee, who is now in labor, snatches James and runs through the house’s secret tunnels.
Cato, on the other hand, has mastered the tunnels and is able to locate her. When Rosalee and James saw Cato, they decided to confine themselves in the kitchen and watch while his sister gave birth. With Cato’s evidence of Harriet’s hiding, Cato confronts Patty Cannon. Patty, Cato, and Mr. Donahue headed off to apprehend Harriet, leaving her men behind. When Cato’s plan is revealed, it’s then.
The error Patty made was believing in her own legend, which is why Cato had to blow her brains out (good riddance, Patty). Then he tells him that he will be in charge of Patty’s group for the rest of his time. This is his second Patty, in case you forgot). Telling the guys that Cato needs to deliver Black Rose for their respect, Donahue understands why. For him, the majority of people just want to be led around by an authoritative figure.
Upon their return to Georgia’s safe house, Noah and Elizabeth discover it to be a complete and utter wreck. Suddenly, they hear faint cries, and they both rush to investigate. When they burst into a room, they found James hiding in a storage bin with Rosalee’s new baby in his arms. Among the people taken were Rose and Georgia as James explains. Noah stands in amazement at his freed newborn kid, feeling both heartbroken and thrilled with delight. He’s been given a new assignment.
Elizabeth wakes up ten months later in a log cabin in Virginia. Turning, she greets a man who is getting ready near the bed. Prior to his work at the federal armory, they have a short conversation about his plans for the future. Elizabeth says her goodbyes as he walks out the door, but her grin fades quickly.
A few hours later, she approaches a dock to hang an illuminated bulb.’ Elizabeth has penetrated Harper’s Ferry, and it’s now evident what she’s up to. The October 1859 John Brown raid is going to get organized.
The revolutionary abolitionist sparked an armed slave insurrection by inciting an armed raid. Brown and his twenty-two men were defeated by the United States Marines, headed by Robert E. Lee, after three days of fighting. When asked if he would take part in the raid, Frederick Douglass declined because he believed the operation would fail.
Harriet Tubman was supposed to be present, but she had recently become unwell and was unable to attend the event. After the raid, Brown was apprehended, prosecuted, convicted, and executed by hanging on December 2, 1859, for his crimes against humanity.

Why Did WGN Cancel Underground Season 3?
As a result of the popularity and high attendance. When it premiered in 2016, the show quickly gained a devoted following. Gradually, though, the show’s popularity waned. There wasn’t the same level of admiration for season 2 as for season 1. As a result, WNG decided to call off the event. It was solely based on financial considerations. Because every studio must turn a profit, there isn’t much to say about it.
Underground Season 3 Release Date
The comedy’s runtime has been trimmed after two seasons on WGN American, a Tribune Media station. It’s likely that Sony Pictures Television will search for a new underground home for the show.“Despite being a wonderful and necessary series, Underground no longer fits with our new approach, and we have made the tough choice not to extend it for a third season,” said Tribune CEO Peter Kern in a statement.“We are incredibly proud of this pioneering sequence, which seized the zeitgeist and had an influence on television in a way that had never been witnessed before on the medium.”
Underground Season 3 Trailer
For the second season of Underground, we’ve got a brand new full-length trailer that’s jam-packed with action. WGN’s period drama looks better than ever. Take a look at this…
Conclusion
The show is straightforward, but it manages to hold viewers’ attention despite its simplicity. The creators have very successfully managed to offer us a picture of the situation of that period. You will empathize with humans observing their condition due to slavery. It will further illustrate the efforts done by the Heroes to break the chain of Slavery. Consider watching it if you enjoy historical dramas. It’s well worth a look.
