V Rising, Stunlock Studios’ open-world vampire survival game, is now available in Early Access on Steam. Players will be able to explore a gothic environment alone or in co-op on servers with up to 40 players, fighting monsters and bandits. Being a vampire is never simple, but in V Rising, it’s a fight for survival to become a successful vampire and the next Dracula.
Players will be able to roam the huge gothic realm of Vardoran as a newly awakened vampire on a planet ruled by humans. New vampires will be able to feed on blood to obtain new powers and skills, raid and loot communities, battle bandits, construct huge castles, and fight otherworldly monsters in dark, terrifying lairs. Players will still need to hide from the blazing sun, no matter how powerful they become.

In case you missed it, V Rising went into early access on Steam last week, with Steamdb reporting that it had over 150,000 concurrent players in its first week. Early access players will be able to explore the world as a vampire who has just awoken from his slumber, ready to battle, craft, build, and fight some more.
The game has received a lot of attention since it provides a pleasant PVE experience for those who just want to fight monsters, poachers, bosses, and other enemies. Or those that prefer to fight it out with other vamps utilizing melee weapons and supernatural abilities obtained from slaying threatening adversaries. The added mechanic of being scorched by the sun adds a new level of difficulty; staying in the shadows is essential for survival.

“To survive as a vampire, you must seek blood in adjacent communities, hide from the hot sun, and avoid stepping into garlic fields,” according to the press release. Something about the picture of a vampire stepping into a field of garlic and howling in anguish makes me laugh, but keep reading. “As you explore a gothic open world, pillage villages, raid bandits, and go into the territories of strange monsters, build your castle and invite bloodthirsty companions to join you.”
There’s a co-op and PvP multiplayer component. The goal, according to a blog post, is to have “at least 50 castles per server.” For that Valheim-with-friends experience, you’ll presumably be able to play single or with a small group of buddies on a private server. Stunlock, like Valheim developers Iron Gate, is based in the Swedish town of Skövde.
