A disturbing video of a little girl being assaulted on a school bus has gone viral, angering parents and inundating a school system in South Florida with demands that someone is held accountable for the incident. To be held accountable.

In footage captured on a cellphone, a student at Coconut Palm K-8 Academy in Homestead can be seen repeatedly punching a 9-year-old girl while she attempts to defend herself from the assailant. He pauses for a second, and another student quickly moves in to take his place, much to the shrieks of the other students watching.

During the roughly 40-second duration of the film, there appears to be no adult intervention. This past week, Miami-Dade Schools released a statement condemning the behavior and confirmed that their local police agency “has arrested the perpetrator and will be charged accordingly.”

“This school district goes to great lengths to promote the values of restraint and respect, as well as using social media responsibly,” a district spokesperson wrote. “We ask that parents reinforce these principles at home.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said the incident occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. Wednesday at 24400 SW 124th Ave. in the city of Homestead. in the vicinity of Miami, which is located about 40 miles southwest of Miami. The two injured children were evaluated by first responders before being returned to their respective parents.

According to CBS News, four hours before the incident, the victim’s mother contacted South Florida television station CBS to express her concern about the prevalence of bullying at Coconut Palm K-8 Academy. Administrators at Coconut Palm K-8 Academy did not respond to requests for comment Friday.
