WESLEY CHAPEL – More than nine hours after being shut down by police to conduct an investigation into a collision in which they claim three different vehicles collided with and killed a 41-year-old pedestrian, a section of northbound Interstate 75 in Pasco County was reopened on Thursday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision took place at around 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes close to mile marker 274, which is just north of the intersection of Interstate 275.
In an updated press release Thursday afternoon, the agency stated that the 2002 Ford Expedition carrying the Tampa man and his 20-year-old son was having issues while it was travelling south on I-75. They exited the Expedition after driving into the shoulder.

According to Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the Highway Patrol, both the father and the boy were drunk.
According to troopers, three vehicles struck the father as he attempted to cross the interstate: a 66-year-old Inverness man’s van, a 54-year-old Brooksville man’s SUV, and a 54-year-old New Port Richey man’s pickup truck. Following the collision, all three drivers stopped.

By 2:30 pm, all lanes had been restored, according to the Highway Patrol.
