In the medical drama genre since 2005, Grey’s Anatomy has reigned with 17 seasons and several spinoffs. It’s been helped a lot by the likeable protagonist Derek Sheperd. Derek, played by Patrick Dempsey, is a fan favorite and one of the show’s most prominent characters. At Seattle Grace Mercy West, Chief of Surgery, he appeared in the show’s first episode.
Nevertheless, after 11 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, it was time to get over its most recognisable character.
Are You Aware of Which Episode Derek Sheperd Dies?
“How to Save a Life,” the last episode of Season 11, determined Derek Sheperd’s destiny.
Derek gives as much support as can to the victims of an automobile accident before emergency services arrive. Prior to getting back into his automobile, he manages to save four people. His phone begins to ring as soon as he is on the road. In the process of trying to grasp it, he gets hit by an oncoming semi-trailer. He was transported to the hospital.
As Derek is escorted to the hospital, the spectator hears his internal monologue. He asks the physicians to perform a CT scan despite the fact that he is fully cognizant but unable to talk. In spite of the fact that Paul Castello (the doctor in charge) understands exactly what he needs, he is ignoring it. Unfortunately, Derek can only watch in horror as mistakes are committed over and over again. It’s too late for the physicians treating him to understand that he needs a CT scan. He’s lost all sense.
Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo), his wife, is taken to the hospital by police soon after. As Derek’s life support is turned off, she signs the paperwork and sits by his side as he fades away.
Despite the fact that Derek died in Grey’s Anatomy, the character has resurfaced in following episodes through Meredith’s visions, most recently while she was suffering from COVID-19 in season 17.
