South Florida — Strong winds and torrential rain caused the majority of trash collection to stop while Hurricane Ian harmed houses and structures. We compiled a list of the current rubbish pickup schedules by county:
Orange County: Orlando: If it is safe for solid waste vehicles to move, Orlando will start picking up garbage and debris on Friday, Sept. 30.
Residents are required to separate materials, bag yard waste, and put trash on the curb. On Saturday, October 1, residential and commercial garbage pickup will take place, including Wednesday’s missed pickups. Thursday’s missed pickups will be picked up on Sunday, October 2.

Brevard County: On Friday, September 30, Brevard County Waste Management will start collecting again for customers of its Friday residential service. On Saturday, October 1, residents who typically get pickups on Saturdays will resume regular service. Customers from Wednesday will be assisted on Saturday, October 1.
On Wednesday, October 5, recycling and yard garbage collection will take place. Around 6 a.m., the crew will take up carted trash, carted recyclables, and contained yard waste. Customers who reside on flooded or impassable roadways will not be able to receive service from Waste Management. Once municipal and county officials decide how they will remove the storm debris, bulky trash or yard waste will be picked up.
Flagler County: All trash pickup in Flagler County has been postponed to Friday, Sept. 30. On Monday, October 3, Bunnell will start garbage collection for homes and businesses.
On the following scheduled weekday, the waste collection will resume in Palm Coast and unincorporated Flagler County.
Seminole County: No information regarding trash and debris pickup for Seminole County has been made public.
Lake County: No information regarding garbage and debris pickup for Lake County has been made public.
Volusia County: No information regarding the collection of trash and waste in Volusia County has been made public.
Sumter County: No information regarding the removal of trash and waste in Sumter County has been made public.
Osceola County: Friday marked the return of residential trash and recycling collection. This week, the county will not pick up bulk trash and yard waste. The trash from Thursday was picked up on Friday, and the trash from Friday will be picked up on Saturday.
Next Monday, the city of Kissimmee will resume providing solid waste services. The first order of business will be to gather and remove debris. Residents won’t have to pay any fees for the pickup of bulk trash or debris.
County of Marion: Ocala: Commercial sanitation routes in Ocala will resume on Friday, September 30, while residential routes that were supposed to be collected on Thursday will do so on Monday, October 3. This can cause a one-day delay in the collection for the following week. During the week of September 26, residents who already had their garbage picked up shouldn’t put any more things on the curb.
