The White Lotus surely has the most skilled public relations agency in the hotel industry: People are still reserving rooms at the five-star resorts in the collection, even though a murder spree has been going on for some time. Despite the fact that Jennifer Coolidge’s character may be making a ghostly cameo in the third season of The White Lotus, HBO already ordered a third season before season 2 had even ended.
Despite the fact that Tanya McQuoid-Hunt’s tragic demise in the season 2 finale was caused by a bizarre mix of a botched assassination attempt, a concussion, and drowning, showrunner Mike White’s attachment to Coolidge’s character remains unchanged.
We know very nothing about season 3 beyond that enticing nugget, so there is a lot of space for speculation. Let’s dissect the crumbs that have been left behind thus far.
White Lotus Season 3 Release Date
The strikes that happened between the writers and the actors put a hold on the production of season 3. During an HBO and Max presentation on November 2, chairman and CEO Casey Bloys stated that the season “probably would have been [released in] 2024,” but they are now “pushing into 2025” due to the delay.
The network did, in fact, announce in a 2025 launch date for Season 3 of The White Lotus in a sizzle reel that same month. A list of new characters was announced and casting for the upcoming season began shortly after the actors’ strike ended on November 9.
Production is expected to begin in Thailand in early February, according to Deadline. Just so you know, the first season premiered in July 2021 and the second one came out in October 2022.
What to Expect From the White Lotus Season 3?
Similar to how the cast of season 1 handed up the reins to season 2, the third season will feature a different set of visitors. White dropped a hint that death will be the central theme of season three in an interview that aired after the finale on HBO.
Season one focused on money, season two was all about sex, and season three would be a comedic and satirical exploration of death and eastern spirituality and religion. He also mentioned that another round of White Lotus could be a wonderful tapestry.
When she announced the renewal of the show for a third season, Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, refrained from discussing potential plot points but appeared enthusiastic about creator Mike White’s vision.
“He’s only continued to reach new heights in season 2, which is the ultimate testament to Mike’s raw, unparalleled vision,” Orsi had stated. We can’t get enough of his peppy filmmaking style, irreverent humor, and brave exploration of the human psyche; it makes us want to spend more time at the beloved resort. We are ecstatic about the opportunity to work together on a third season.
Season 3 would be “a supersized White Lotus,” White told Entertainment Weekly in early November, adding that he is “seriously finishing scripts.” Something wilder, longer, and grander is about to happen, he said. I have no idea what other people will think, but I am incredibly excited, so that’s a positive thing for me… The season’s material has me very pumped up.
White Lotus Season 3 Cast:
With the exception of the legendary Coolidge, the entire cast of season 2 was changed from that of season 1. It was likely that the showrunner would bring her back for another round, considering White’s devotion to Tanya and his personal admiration for the actress playing her. It seems that is no longer the case, though, after the events of the season 2 finale.
“Jennifer is my friend and everybody loved her in the first season. I was like, ‘I can’t go to Italy without Jennifer,'” White had previously told Deadline.. I suppose it may be the case even now. Perhaps you’d also be unable to visit Japan without Jennifer. The question becomes, “Who is available?” since we’ve had a blast working with all these talented actors.
Perhaps White was trying to divert attention away from Tanya’s death in the finale by dropping this hint. But it’s equally possible that he’s being serious, that Tanya may make an appearance next season—maybe in flashbacks.
Still another face that might be familiar? Connie Britton from Season 1. There was a concept for the character that White wanted her to play in season two, and she told Deadline in July that she loved it. We plan to accomplish this in Season 3. We intend to [do] something with the third season’s casting that didn’t work with the second. All of the characters from the show need their own spinoff.
But there are rumblings that Natasha Rothwell may reprise her role as Tanya’s friend and the spa manager Belinda, who she bamboozled in the first season. According to Variety, which cited several sources familiar with the production, the news broke. At this moment, there is limited information available regarding her plot.
Several new characters are being cast for season 3, according to Deadline. An huge cast spanning generations will be included in The White Lotus once again. I understand that thirteen parts are being filled at the moment, with nine of those being series regulars.
The ages of the actors involved range from eighteen to eighty-plus. Among the roles being cast are patriarchs, corporate executives, actresses, moms, misfits, and yogis.
