With his assistance, Wednesday learns that the enigmatic Hyde takes its name from the tale of Jekyll & Hyde because it primarily behaves sweetly and innocently but has a hidden evil side that leads it to change into a terrible eye-bulging monster.
Fester also reveals that Hyde requires a master to access its powers and be controlled. Hence the creature cannot function on its own.
Who is the Hyde Monster in Wednesday?
Tyler Galpin is the Hyde monster in Wednesday. He wasn’t Wednesday’s first suspect, though; after doing some preliminary investigation, she was persuaded that Xavier was responsible for the horrific killings.
Wednesday assumed he was the monster based on the ‘proof’ of his enigmatic artwork and hidden retreat in the woods, but she was ultimately disproven.
The Hyde is Tyler, Wednesday’s prospective love interest and the sheriff of Jericho’s son. When Wednesday and Tyler kiss, she realises that he is the monster she has been looking for all along after seeing a vision with the help of her telepathic powers.
Wednesday is forced to fight Tyler and his master (more on them below) in the last seconds of episode 8, and it appears that she might lose and be killed.
That is until a few of Wednesday’s classmates from Nevermore unite in support of her, most notably her werewolf roommate Enid, who manages to fight the Hyde despite being traumatised by the encounter.
Who Was Controlling the Hyde?
The master of Hyde is discovered to be Laurel Gates, posing as Marilyn Thornhill. Wednesday rushed to the wrong conclusion as she sought to figure out who the creature’s master was, thinking at first that it was Dr Kinbott, much as she had done with the identity of the Hyde.
But when Wednesday inquired about the individual who had attacked her buddy Eugene earlier, he revealed that they had red boots, just like Ms. Marilyn Thornhill, the sole normie instructor at Nevermore.
Finally, Wednesday concluded that Marilyn, whose real name is Laurel, is the sister of Garrett Gates, who was murdered by Morticia while attending Nevermore, and a direct descendant of Joseph Crackstone, the founder of Jericho who wished to eradicate Outcasts from the world when he was alive.
Tyler stepped in to help Marilyn with her plan to resurrect Crackstone so they could carry out his evil vision. Wednesday was chosen because she is a descendant of Goody Addams, who was once accused of being a witch by Crackstone centuries earlier. Tyler also provided the body parts of several normies to complete the process.
Thankfully, though, Wednesday and her friends can overcome the revived Crackstone and Laurel with the aid of Nevermore’s fellow pupils and the spirit of Goody.
