They prevailed against the runner-up and former Bachelorette Gabby Windey and her boyfriend Val Chmerkovskiy, the third-place finisher Wayne Brady and partner Witney Carson, and the queen of drag Shangela and partner Gleb Savchenko (who finished in fourth).

The Cedric Gervais & Franklin ft. Nile Rodgers’s song “Everybody Dance” served as the opening performance for the season 31 finale, which included the show’s professional dancers.

The four finalists, who would be performing two routines: a Redemption Dance selected by one of the judges and the well-known Freestyle, were then honoured by co-hosts Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro.

All of the eliminated contestants made a comeback to do a final dance, and the episode’s highlights were recapped week by week, taking fans on a walk down memory lane. The two dancers who made the most headlines were Selma Blair and Sasha Farber, who performed after Selma had to withdraw from the competition because of issues with her MS.

Two retirement ceremonies took place that night: Len Goodman, who announced his retirement last week, was recognised with a tribute video and his mirrorball trophy, while professional Cheryl Burke performed her farewell dance after announcing her retirement after 26 seasons.

First Round: Redemption Dance

Shangela and Gleb Savchenko

Being in the bottom two for the first time, according to Shangela, was “frightening,” but now “it’s full steam ahead to the mirrorball trophy.” After getting a flawless score, Shangela stated that she believed her Halloween Night performance to be her “breakthrough moment” in terms of her path.

She continued, “I’ve only ever been at the top of the scoreboard,” saying she wanted to demonstrate to others that “if you can commit, you can do it… now is the moment to show them why I deserve to win.”

Bruno Tonioli, the judge, entered the rehearsals and requested that they redo their quickstep for their redemption dance. He assisted with the details, such as Shangela’s frame, and subsequently, he was ecstatic to see them sing “Queen Bee” by Rochelle Diamante at the end.

He acknowledged that “you went on the wrong foot,” but yet stated, “Your frame was so much better.” Carrie Ann Inaba said to Shangela, “You excite me,” and noted that Shangela’s quickstep performance was “far more elegant” than her own.

Derek Hough praised Shangela for her historic run on the programme and said her dance was “amazing,” while Len remarked “the improvement was huge” and termed their dance “dynamic.”

Afterward, Shangela discussed the incident at the Colorado LGBTQ bar with Alfonso. “We need more love and less hate; we cannot accept an attack on the LGBTQ community. Know that there is hope, little one “She spoke. Score: 36/40

Wayne Brady and Witney Carson

But I wouldn’t have wanted to start this road unless I knew I would be standing here, Wayne remarked, adding that he was “surprised” to be in the conclusion. He also discussed the difficulties brought on by his demanding schedule and made clear that he “wanted to prove to myself” that he could pull this off.

Len was welcomed by Wayne and Witney into the rehearsals, where he was informed that the quickstep needed to be redone. He informed them, “I want to see a really good frame.” Wayne said to the cameras: “The importance of the redemption dance cannot be overstated since everything will be scrutinised to the last detail. This week is a significant one, and you can count on us to deliver.”

Len praised the group after their dance to Jackie Wilson’s “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher,” saying “it was so full of joy.” Len acknowledged that the dance “required a little more movement” and “could’ve been done with a little more flow,” even though he believed Wayne’s “frame was stronger.”

Derek acknowledged that his dance had improved but said that there had been “a little bit of a stumble on the side-by-side section.” Carrie Ann complimented Wayne, saying, “Your posture and frame are so better… you are so balanced when you dance,” and Bruno added, “Whatever you do, you make it look nice.” Score: 36/40

Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas

About her last week’s grades, Charli exclaimed that she was “very excited.” What a way to start the conclusion, she exclaimed. I don’t think I spent enough time working on the character component of my jive from earlier in the season, which I performed during week five on Prom Night, Charli said to Mark.

Carrie Ann was then brought into the pair’s rehearsal space to assist with their “redemption jive.” She said to the TikTok celebrity, “I’m looking for a little bit more emotion. Charli’s ability to “dance with her heart” was praised by Carrie Ann after the two performed to Little Mix’s “Grown.” The routine was “amazing,” she said.

Derek remarked that it’s difficult to believe how far Charli has gone, while Len stated, “I think this was even better than the last one.” The subtlety and attention to detail are “amazing and wild,” he remarked. Charli was hailed by Bruno as the “queen of jive” and as “the best I’ve ever seen.” Score: 40/40

Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy

Before reflecting on the entire season, Gabby celebrated her high scores from last week and her progress to date. Going into the finale, I’m exactly where I want to be, but I’m only as good as this week’s performances, she added.

The two invited six-time winner Derek to see their practise sessions because he wanted to see them do their cha cha to Pete Rodriguez’s “I Like It (Like That)”.

There is no space for error, so I must learn from Derek who brought six individuals to the top, Gabby informed the cameras. Because the competition is so fierce, I want to demonstrate to the judges how much I’ve improved.

And she undoubtedly did. After the routine, Derek praised her “quality of movement” and “texture,” saying she was “born to perform.” Bruno asserted “I really liked it, and the routine “was just so seductive,” she continued.

” Len remarked that it “was full of rhythm and [had] outstanding technique,” and Carrie Ann felt it was “by far, your nicest dance.” Score: 40/40

Result

Prior to the results, Wayne and Shangela were at the bottom of the scoreboard with a total score of 76/80, while Charli and Gabby were equal at the top with an 80/80.

In addition, Alfonso and Tyra announced that Vinny Guadagnino, Daniel Durant, and Charli and Heidi D’Amelio would be performing in a few towns while Gabby would be joining the DWTS tour.
