Gus unexpectedly slits Victor’s neck with a box cutter in front of his scared gang after discovering the dirty facts of Gale’s failed murder. After warning them not to “cross him,” the insane boss tells them to “go back to work.”
Some believe that Gus murdered his loyal henchman because the man had exposed himself at the scene of Gale’s death, endangering Gus’s lucrative drug operation. Walt, though, reached his conclusions regarding Victor’s death and said Jesse Gus’ close friend had “flown too close to the sun.” Insinuating that Gus may have taken extreme measures, he implied that the henchman’s risky behavior in running the business was the impetus for such actions.
As a result of Victor’s confession that he had been making meth while holding Walt and Jesse prisoner, the ruthless drug lord became enraged. Walter and Jesse later use hydrofluoric acid to disintegrate Victor’s body, the box cutter, and the murder weapon used to kill Gale. In an interview following the airing of “The Box Cutter,” actor Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Gus, said, “I’m holding him, and he’s bleeding out, and I’ve sliced his throat.”
“But I wanted to have sympathy, in the end, some moment of ‘I didn’t want to do this guy like this,'” he said. Because, deep down, I believe he liked Victor. As much as he wants the other person to die, he has to keep him alive so that these other guys will learn his lesson. It’s when you realize Gus is a dedicated killer.
