Here we are talking about Willow Episode 6 Madmartigan. I was eager to see Skellig after hearing the Bone Reavers speak about the horrors of the trolls’ underground mountain home on last week’s episode of Willow. Thankfully, this sixth episode of Willow did precisely that one week later when trolls kidnaped Kit and Willow, and the rest of the squad traveled to Skellin to locate them.
As terrifying and awful as Skellin may be, it turns out that it is much more significant to the plot than we could have ever thought. Willow, however, reminded us of the real reason for this before we even arrived at Skellin: Prince Arik! Recall him? Kit’s brother, Elora’s beloved, and the primary purpose for everyone’s departure on this journey? Things started to liven up as he stepped outdoors and showed off the enormous size of the deserted Immemorial City.
Except for the disembodied voice, which the subtitles reveal as the Crone herself, he seems alone. She is pleading with him to accept his authority. Arik declines and thinks that since he is alone himself, he might try to leave. He then begins to move. In about 50 minutes, we catch up with him. As witnessed in the previous episode, the trolls have caught Willow and Kit, and they are currently being held in Skellin’s dangling cages, which have actual mines of Moria/pits of Mordor vibe.
When they discover they aren’t the only prisoners there, Kit appears inevitable they will be released shortly. There is also a man who introduces himself as Madmartigan. Readers, this is not the Madmartigan portrayed by Val Kilmer. It is a role played by Christian Slater, a fellow superstar, and he couldn’t have lied to Mad’s oldest friend Willow and daughter, Kit, to two worse individuals in the world. The trolls show up before they can expose him for the liar he is.

They’re also surprisingly funny! The fact that the trolls had such boisterous, hilarious personalities nearly didn’t match, but hey, that’s Willow. The trolls reveal their true objective: to locate Elora Danan for the Crone once Kit confesses who she is. Boorman, Jade, Graydon, Scorpia, and Elora travel to Skellin. Graydon believes it’s time to tell Elora how he feels about her after slogging through some troll waste.
It’s not the time or place, she assures him, but her tension seems to reshape the mountain. Skellin, as a whole, trembles whenever Elora sneezes or is alarmed. The trolls know that Kit, Willow, and Elora’s allies are pursuing them. Back in captivity, Slater’s character is called out on his b.s. and identified as Allagash, an old buddy of Madmartigan who went out with him on the mission to locate the fabled Kymerian Cuirass armor together with Boorman. Additionally, Allagash claims that Boorman deceived both him and Madmartigan and that he knows precisely where Madmartigan is.
He’s kind of here in Skellin. There must be more to this location than meets the eye. Following that shocking information, Kit and Willow assist in freeing Allagash. While the other four continue searching for Kit and Willow, Scorpia departs the group of rescuers to make an effort to help some of her people who have also been trapped in the mine. Unless they are? Boorman claims to know his destination, but it’s not apparent if he’s telling the truth.
Meanwhile, Elora’s mysterious connection to this mountain almost causes her to tumble into the lava and forces her to lose Cherlindrea’s wand. She can also hear Kit shouting at her from a distance. The kit isn’t indeed screaming at Elora, though. She is entirely unaware of her presence. Allagash’s tales of her father far too enthrall her.
We learn that despite a brief disagreement, they were close friends and that Madmartigan had invited him to join him on one last journey. Allagash thinks Madmartian is somewhere in Wiggleheim’s tomb, the ultimate resting place of a renowned explorer who they thought was interred with the Kymerisn Curass after three years of searching.
According to Allagash, Boorman betrayed them when they arrived at the tomb and took the Lux Arcana, but Madmartigan entered the tomb nonetheless and never came out. When the trolls began searching for Madmartigan, Allagash pretended to be him so his comrade could continue his journey unhampered. Because of this, he has been imprisoned, yet, as far as he is aware, Madmartigan never emerged.
Ruby Cruz Calls Willow Episode 6 “the Absolute Low Point” for Kit
Every hero’s journey includes a moment of utter despair, and with Willow episode 6, Kit has brought us to that point (Ruby Cruz). The kit has always been a complex character, with her hurt and hubris occasionally outweighing her more virtuous qualities, as they could in any adolescent. Although you want people to support the person, Cruz recognizes there is a lot to be upset about, given the circumstances.
“Many things have affected her in the past and are still affecting her today. She attempts to grow as big as possible so that she won’t get injured again, making her harsh and aggressive. I needed to be genuine to the suffering I believed she was experiencing.” She continues, “She keeps putting her faith in these people who are giving her lies. Her suffering has been ingested, which is unhealthy.
In episode 6, Kit discovers more about her father, Madmartigan (Val Kilmer), who has been absent for a long time, and that pain reaches new depths. When trolls capture Kit and Willow, they see Allagash (Christian Slater), who has been posing as Madmartigan for years. Cruz says that Slater, another young 1980s star like Kilmer, is the ideal choice for the part and that he added much-needed humor to the set.
“He is the guy I’ve ever met who is most excited. Everything excites him so much, “She replies, laughing. “Wales hosted the shoot for nine months. There weren’t many breaks, and I was truly craving home. When Christian arrived, he experienced a slight sense of familiarity. The sun was with him as well. He was so thrilled to be a part of it that it made me and Kit both feel like, “This is why we’re out here.” This is the purpose of our journey.”
Cruz was delighted by Slater’s actions, but Kit was devastated when he learned that Slater had given himself to the trolls so that Madmartigan could continue to defend Elora Danan (Ellie Bamber). Cruz explains, “She knows he’s out there right now. “She is hurt when she learns that her father thought her job was to help him with his objective of defending Elora.
She knows it is true, but it hurts her deeply because she has always blamed Elora for her father’s passing.” Madmartigan’s absence has negatively damaged Kit’s personal development, which contributes to some of that pain. According to Cruz, “Her dad was her hero, and losing him was incredibly painful for her.”
“Because she has always seen so much of herself in her father, she is left with a huge question mark concerning both her identity and that of her father. Her development and worldview have suffered as a result. She feels she must overcompensate for her physical prowess and warrior skills.”
As she hears her father speaking to her via some bright doorway or emptiness in episode six, Kit feels closer to him than she has in a long time. Kit’s father’s voice was read by showrunner Jonathan Kasdan on set and later altered in post. When her father tells Kit, she must stay to protect Elora. She is tempted to follow him into the void. However, Kit is pulled back from the edge by Elora.
Cruz observes that “She’s just so broken at that moment.” “After coming so close to seeing her father, she feels like she no longer has anything after losing that chance. She is prepared to watch it all fall apart it. That represents her absolute lowest point; it’s the bottom.”
Additionally, it might not just be the bottom. As Elora uses her magic to save Kit, the episode concludes with her stranded and possibly drowning while she is floating in a pool. But is Kit even interested in being held? Cruz doesn’t believe that at the time.
She says, “She’s ready to give up.” “She is pleading with Elora to destroy everything and murder her. She has looked everywhere for solutions, but she keeps coming up empty. She keeps getting hurt over and over. She is currently feeling hopeless.”
