Canadian basketball player Zach Edey, currently with the Big Ten’s Purdue Boilermakers, was born on May 14, 2002. He would be the tallest player in Big Ten history at 7 feet, 4 inches (2.24 meters). After the 2023 season, Edey was named the Big 10 Player of the Year and the unanimous National Player of the Year.
Early Life
On May 14, 2002, in Toronto, Ontario, Zach Edey was born to parents Julia and Glen Edey. His father is white, and his mother is Chinese; she is 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) tall. Edey played baseball and ice hockey as a kid, just as his dad did.
When Edey was a student at Leaside High School in Toronto, he joined the Northern Kings Amateur Athletic Union basketball team. Because of his extraordinary height and the impact of his strike zone on baseball, he didn’t start playing until it was no longer a viable option for him.

Edey moved to the United States and attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. In his first season, he made their B team and started working out regularly with IMG coach and ex-NBA player Daniel Santiago.
Edey was promoted to the varsity team the following year. He was able to play college basketball for Purdue despite interest from schools such as Santa Clara and Baylor in the 2020 class. By most accounts, he was a solid third-tier prospect.

Sometimes she’ll hand out t-shirts to the audience with his nickname, “The Big Maple,” emblazoned on them. The origins of his nickname include his towering stature and ties to his country Canada.
Zach Edey is building a name for himself, although there is still a long way to go until the NBA lockout. The latest Bleacher Report mock draft has him selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 54th overall pick. Edey’s second-round draft position makes it challenging to remain in the league, but his skill set may be helpful anyway.
When did Zach Edey’s Edey’ss tie the knot?
Since Glen and Julia are both very private people, their love story has never been revealed to the general public. Their first encounter, length of courtship, and wedding date are all unknown to the general public. Given that Zach Edey just turned 20, it’s assumed that the couple has been together for at least 20 years. Word on the street shows that the Edeys are supportive and close-knit.
