American actress Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, and passed away on August 4, 1962). One of the most recognisable icons of the sexual revolution of the 1950s and 1960s, she rose to fame playing humorous “blonde bombshell” roles. After a decade as a leading lady, she passed away in 1962 with cinematic earnings of $200 million (about $2 billion in 2021 dollars).
Monroe has remained a cultural figure long after her death. In 1999, she was voted number six on the American Film Institute’s list of the top ten female stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood. To this day, she has never been nominated for an Academy Award, although in 2009, The Guardian ranked her as one of the best performers who has never been nominated.

The dramatised life of Marilyn Monroe, one of the most iconic figures in the history of Hollywood, is the subject of “Blonde,” a period film currently streaming on Netflix and directed by Andrew Dominik. The film directed by Dominik is the most recent in a long line of media based on the actress’s fascinating life story.
These works maintain Monroe as a subject of immense curiosity among the public even fifty years after her death. Lately, debates concerning an automobile accident related to Monroe have motivated us to delve into the same in detail. If the accident has piqued your interest, we’ll tell you everything we know about it.
On June 29, 1956, Marilyn Monroe wed her third husband, Arthur Miller. The famous actress and playwright both announced their weddings to the press on the same day. Monroe and Miller attended a terrible vehicle crash scene before the news briefing. At the time, numerous reporters, including Mara Scherbatoff, the New York bureau chief for the French magazine Paris Match, were present at Miller’s property near Roxbury, New York. She was accompanied to the farm by photographer Paul Slade and the photographer’s brother, Ira.
Not being able to locate Monroe and Miller in the farmhouse, Scherbatoff and Slade guessed that the pair had gone to Miller’s cousin’s house, which was only a short distance away. According to reports, when Ira and Scherbatoff were on their way to visit their cousin, they ran across Monroe and Miller, who were on their way to the farm in an Oldsmobile is driven by Miller’s cousin Morton.
Morton’s familiarity with the area’s roadways likely contributed to the Oldsmobile’s rapid acceleration, and Ira and Scherbatoff were said to have followed it. Ira wasn’t as competent a driver as Morton since he wasn’t familiar with the road, which was designed for horse carts and light agricultural traffic.
Ira wasn’t able to navigate the sharp turn with the same caution and efficiency as before, and as a result, the automobile crashed into a towering oak tree. Scherbatoff was reportedly propelled partially through the windshield, and Ira was trapped inside the vehicle with less serious injuries.
Scherbatoff and Ira were reportedly removed from the vehicle by Morton, Monroe, and Miller. Unfortunately, Scherbatoff did not make it to a New Milford hospital and had to be pronounced dead. The journalist reportedly passed away while being operated on. According to J. Randy Taraborrelli‘s “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe,” Marilyn was “extremely affected by the accident.”
Scherbatoff’s death while trailing Monroe and Miller has been reported by several sources, however, the writer later recalled the events differently. Miller claims in his autobiography, “Timebends: A Life,” that he and Scherbatoff were following the injured woman and her automobile.
Miller and Monroe were driving home in the late afternoon when they saw a Chevrolet off to the side of the road about a quarter of a mile from their residence. The car’s front end was wrapped around a tree. Miller described the identical event, “we stopped, and I got out and looked,” in his book. “I saw a woman splayed out on the front seat, her neck definitely broken.”
Miller continued by saying that Scherbatoff had been chasing after the wrong automobile, not the one he and Monroe were in. When Ira asked a neighbour for directions to his home, he mistook a passing automobile for his own, gave chase, missed the turn, and crashed into a tree. As with his partner, Miller was saddened by Scherbatoff’s passing.
A sense of doom settled over both of us [Monroe and Miller] since it was such a needless death and such a futile endeavour. The writer noted in “Timebends: A Life” that “the struck tree slowly withered and after half a dozen years ultimately collapsed, leaving a stump that my eye could not avoid gazing for in the weeds whenever I drove through.”
