Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss Death: Stephen “tWitch” Boss, a regular on So You Think You Can Dance and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, committed suicide on Tuesday, TVLine has confirmed. He was 40.
As TMZ was the first to report, Boss’s wife, Allison Holker, called the Los Angeles Police Department after he left home without his car in a strange way. Later, when police got a call about a shooting at a Los Angeles hotel, they found Boss with a gunshot wound that seemed to have been self-inflicted.
“It breaks my heart to tell you that my husband Stephen has left us,” Holker told People in a statement. “Stephen made every room brighter when he walked in. He cared most about his family, friends, and community. Leading with love and light was the most important thing to him. He was the strongest member of our family. He was also the best husband and father, and his fans looked up to him. It would be an understatement to say that he left a legacy, and the good things he did will continue to be felt.
“I’m sure there won’t be a day that goes by when we don’t remember him,” she said in her statement. “During this hard time for me and especially for our three children, we ask for privacy. We love and miss you, Stephen, and I’ll always save the last dance for you.
In 2008, Boss became known as a contestant on Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance. His unique hip-hop performances impressed both viewers and judges, and he ended up in second place. Boss has been back to SYTYCD in different ways since his time as a contestant, including as a judge with JoJo Siwa and Leah Remini on the just-ended Season 17.
Boss started being a guest DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014. He did this for a long time until the show ended in May of this year. Since 2020, he has also been an executive producer on the show.
Boss is survived by his wife Holker, who he met on SYTYCD, and their three children, Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia. Holker and Boss just celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary.
