1 Dead And 2 Critically Injured In Highway Crash Near Hammond
A highway collision in Northwest Indiana on Thursday resulted in one fatality and two injuries. In Lake County, the collision occurred at 1:25 p.m. on eastbound I-80/94. Near Hammond and Munster, it was located on the Columbia Avenue overpass that connects Calumet Avenue and Indianapolis Boulevard.
According to state police, the SUV behind the semi-truck started to slow down or had stopped. The Kia was rear-ended by a second truck, which then forced it under the front semi’s trailer.
One Kia passenger died in the collision, according to Indiana State Police. There are two other people with potentially fatal injuries: the Kia’s driver and a young passenger.
Chopper7 had passed above the area. A little car wedged between two semi-trucks looked to have sustained serious damage.
Following the crash investigation by law enforcement, all eastbound lanes on I-80/94 at Calumet Avenue were reopened after six o’clock in the evening. There was no immediate information available regarding the crash.
