Chase Elliott will not be able to compete this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway due to a leg injury he sustained on Friday while snowboarding in Colorado.
The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion will have surgery on his damaged left leg on Friday night. In Sunday’s Cup Series race, Josh Berry will drive the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in Elliott’s place. Berry is a full-time Xfinity Series competitor for JR Motorsports, a Hendrick Motorsports associate team.

According to team owner Rick Hendrick, our primary concern is Chase’s health. He has spoken with some staff members and is upset about missing the time spent in the car. Since starting his full-time career in 2016, Elliot has never missed a Cup Series race. On Sunday, the Pennzoil 400, he will do so. After the first two races, he is ranked 14th in the overall standings. The No. 9 squad ran second last weekend at Auto Club Speedway after finishing 38th in the Daytona 500.
Berry, 32, has participated in two Cup Series games. He competed for Spire Motorsports in 2021, placing 26th at Michigan International Speedway, a career-best.
