Abakar Kazbekov, who played junior hockey for the London Knights of the OHL, died on Saturday. He was eighteen.
“The Ontario Hockey League and the London Knights are sad to report that player Abakar Kazbekov died unexpectedly,” the team said. “Since 2021, Abakar has been a valuable member of the team. His family, friends, and teammates are in our thoughts.”
Police haven’t been able to confirm who died yet, but CTV News London says they don’t think there was foul play. Kazbekov’s body was found on the street, and the London Police Service considers he fell from an apartment building.

The Knights took Kazbekov with the first pick in the OHL’s under-18 draught in 2021. He was from Russia. Due to injuries, Kazbekov had only played in 21 games over the past two seasons. His last game was Friday night when the Knights played the Owen Sound Attack at home.
Saturday night’s London home game against the Flint Firebirds was canceled, and it’s unclear when the team will be back on the ice.
