Anthony Ciccone, Madonna’s older brother, has passed away at the age of 66, a family source has confirmed. A member of the star’s family, Ciccone reportedly passed away on Friday night.
For a long time, he allegedly struggled with alcoholism and lived on the streets, even under a bridge. Joseph Henry, his brother-in-law, posted a black-and-white photo of him and the news that he had “exited this earthly plane” on Instagram.
Henry, who is married to Madonna’s sister Melanie Ciccone, adds, “I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone.” There has been no word on what exactly caused his death.
Though the singer has yet to address Ciccone’s death publicly, Madonna did show her condolences by liking Joe Henry’s Instagram post in which the news was first broken. Madonna and her siblings (including Anthony) grew raised in the city of Detroit, Michigan. She left Michigan for New York in 1978 to pursue a career in dance and music, but Ciccone remained in the Great Lakes State.

In 1963, when they were still young, they lost their mother to breast cancer. Brother-in-law Henry describes Ciccone as a “complex figure” in his Instagram post.

“We fought as brothers do, and God knows there were times when we tangled. “But I loved him and knew him better than I let on at times. In the end, though, the difficulties disappear and the family that shared the meal together remains, hands still extended. And I bid you farewell, Anthony”.
“I’d like to believe that the deity your holy mom worshiped and mine did also has her there, ready to welcome you with open arms. So long as today lasts, I will not let anyone talk me out of this dream.”
Ciccone had previously lashed out at his family, blaming them for not caring about him, which led to a rift between them. “As far as they’re concerned, I might as well be a zero. There’s no hiding the fact that I’m a failure here “In 2011, he made the statement to the Daily Mail.
“If I died of hypothermia, no one would know or care for at least six months.” In 2017, it was announced that he had finished a rehabilitation program and reunited with his loved ones.
