Who Started AnyTongs?
Tog Samphel, a product designer, came up with the idea for AnyTongs. In 2004, when he was studying Art and Design at Montclair State University, he dropped out because AOL offered him a job. He was a designer for 9 years, working for companies like Nintendo of America, Sourcebits, ADP, Meta, LOOP, and AOL.
AnyTongs Before Shark Tank
Samphel released AnyTongs in 2020. Samphel’s mother was the one who gave him the idea to make this product. When his mother was cooking and needed tongs, she used plastic tape to turn a spoon or fork into a pair of tongs. After that, Samphel had the idea to make this product. In March 2019, he started designing the product, and in May 2019, he made the first prototype. In August 2019, we started looking for a manufacturer, and after a lot of searching, we found one in October 2019.
Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, we couldn’t move forward in 2020. He started a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter on Oct. 19, 2020, with a goal of $10,000. This project on Kickstarter got $33,454 from 974 backers. Samphel’s two daughters and wife joined him in Product Delivery Time to help. By December 2020, all of the backers had received their packages.
How Did AnyTongs’s Pitch in Shark Tank Go?
Tog goes into the Shark Tank and asks for $150k in exchange for 20% of his business. Tog puts money into AnyTongs to solve the problem of having too many tongs. Tog gives a demonstration of how regular tools can be turned into kitchen tongs. Tog loves designing products, and for the past 10 years he has worked as a designer for many different companies.
