“We appreciate your prayers and thoughts for the Knight Family. As many people have heard, my father was admitted to the hospital over the weekend due to a condition and has since been discharged. We respectfully request your privacy while he is being looked after and resting at home. Coach taught us and others who played for him the value of persevering in the face of difficulty, and he and our family are grateful for the immense support you have shown during this difficult time. We value your ongoing prayers and thoughts.”
Knight was healing at home from pneumonia, according to Knight’s wife, who Dick Vitale spoke with on Monday night and reported in a tweet.

Knight led the Hoosiers to three national championships during his 29 years as Indiana’s coach. At the time of his retirement, he was the winningest player in Division I men’s basketball history. Knight has resided in Bloomington for some years.
He made a long-standing commitment not to enroll in the program from which he was expelled in 2000, but in 2020, he broke that commitment by going to an IU-Purdue game. Since Mike Woodson, a former teammate of Knight’s from 1976 to 1980, assumed the position of head coach in March 2021, Knight has been a frequent presence in the team’s backroom during workouts.
