In 1983, the year he had the most sacks in his career, he was chosen to play in the Pro Bowl for the first and only time. In 16 years as a player, he missed only four games.
When he played in the NFL, Butz was 6 feet 8 inches tall and often weighed close to 300 pounds. Because of this, he was one of the heaviest players in the league.
