On December 5, 2023, at the age of 79, rock band Wings and The Moody Blues guitarist and co-founder Denny Laine passed away. Among his many notable collaborators were Paul McCartney and Mary J. Blige; he was also an extremely productive and adaptable musician.

Denny Laine Cause of Death
The consequences of the COVID-19 virus, which Laine caught in March of 2022, were the cause of his death, according to his wife Elizabeth Hines. Even though he got over the virus in five days, he had a string of complications subsequently, such as a blood infection caused by bacteria and a collapsed lung that needed surgery.
After multiple hospitalizations beginning in July 2023, he was finally released from Naples, Florida’s NCH Baker Hospital on September 21, 2023.

A Fundraiser for Medical Bills
Without health insurance, Laine was unable to pay the mountain of medical expenses that accumulated after his death. On September 22, 2023, his wife launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical bills and rehabilitation.
On the fundraising website, she stated: “I’m requesting financial assistance to acquire Denny the medical treatment and recuperation period he needs. During this moment, he must prioritize his healing.
Gypsy Den’s safe return by his birthday (October 29) is our top priority. As of December 6, 2023, the campaign had raised approximately $20,000 out of its $100,000 target.
A Tribute Concert
Paul McCartney’s well-acclaimed album Band On the Run, on which Laine was a co-writer and guitarist, was released nearly 50 years ago today. Laine passed away the day following the record’s release. Many of Laine’s friends and former bandmates spoke highly of his talent and legacy in interviews and social media posts.
Upon learning of the passing of his old buddy Denny Laine, McCartney expressed his sadness on Twitter. Both as a musician and a person, he excelled. I will always hold him in high regard because of the fantastic times we shared in Wings.
Denny, may you rest in peace. A memorial concert honoring Laine is scheduled to be held in London in January 2024. Various musicians, notably McCartney, will sing his music and pay respect to him.
