Last year, Sheeran, 32, went through a month of heartbreaking events: the couple’s second daughter, Jupiter, was born in May; he discovered that his expectant wife, Cherry Seaborn, had a tumor that couldn’t be treated until after giving birth. He also had to deal with the passing of his best friend, Jamal, and a lawsuit alleging that his 2017 hit, “Shape of You,” violated someone else’s copyright. After getting to know Aaron Dessner of The National through their mutual acquaintance Taylor Swift, Sheeran hired him as a co-writer and producer. Swift’s acclaimed acoustic albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” were produced by Dessner.
In February 2022, the duo started work on “-,” producing more than 30 songs. The songs “Life Goes On,” “End of Youth,” “Curtains,” “No Strings,” and “The Hills of Aberfeldy” made the cut.
Sheeran is getting ready for the Australian portion of his Mathematics tour, which will begin in Australia on May 6 and end in September in the United States with a stop in Arlington, Texas.
