In 1991, Molina won election to the Board of Supervisors for the first time. She was the first Latina to be elected to either the California State Assembly or the Los Angeles City Council. Supervisor Molina’s term ended in 2014.
In March of 2023, Molina posted on Facebook that she had been fighting cancer for three years.
It said, “She faced this fight with the same courage and resilience she lived her life,” in Martinez’s statement. “Gloria has been encouraged by the outpouring of love and support from all of us over the past few weeks,” the author writes.
Their pride in Molina’s political and activist legacy is clear, but they also want her to be remembered for the role she played in their lives: “loving mom and grandmother, the protective oldest sister, wise ta and loyal friend.”
