Kayla Hamilton, a 20-year-old autistic woman was killed, and police in Maryland say they have arrested a 17-year-old “undocumented non-citizen” who is thought to be a member of the MS-13 gang. Police in Aberdeen say that the boy was arrested on July 27, 2022, for killing Kayla Hamilton by strangling her.
“Hamilton’s death was determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be a homicide by strangulation. Detectives learned from Hamilton’s family that she was autistic and had recently moved to Aberdeen with her twenty-two-year-old boyfriend.” Aberdeen Police Department statement

The boy became a person of interest to the police, and it was later found that he was a “undocumented non-citizen” from El Salvador. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that he was also listed in that country as a member of Malva Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13.

After comparing his DNA to clues from the crime scene, the police were able to catch him. He was caught early last Sunday morning in Edgewood, Maryland, which is about 10 miles south of Aberdeen. He is being held at the Harford County Detention Center without bail. At this time, we don’t know who he is.
The investigation was done with help from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. About 30 miles away from Baltimore is the city of Aberdeen.
