The Early Life of Maria Menounos
Maria Menounos was born on June 8, 1978, to Greek immigrants Costas and Litsa Menounos in the Boston neighborhood of Medford, Massachusetts. Prior to the birth of their daughter, her parents had immigrated to the United States and found work as nightclub cleaners in Boston.
As a child, she regularly worshipped at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. She got her high school education at Medford. Menounos directed her first film, an independent fairy tale called “Land of Merry Misfits,” when she was just 17 years old.
She first entered pageants in 1995 and by 2006 had crowned herself Miss Massachusetts Teen USA. After that, Menounos went to Emerson College, where she joined the now-famous student group Emerson Independent Video. In 2000, she earned her degree from Emerson.
She had been a reporter for Channel One News during her college years. Menounos’s ten-minute portions included many high-profile assignments, such as reporting from El Salvador following the country’s devastating earthquake, chatting with NATO aircrew members during Operation Eagle Assist, and speaking with President George W. Bush.
Maria Menounos’ Professional Acting Career
Menounos began her career in the media in 2002 when she was employed as a journalist by Entertainment Tonight. She covered the entertainment industry from a reporting standpoint until leaving in 2005 to pursue performing.
A few months later, though, she switched to the competing show “Access Hollywood.” She was one of several famous people humiliated in “Red Carpet Interviews” on the show “Punk’d” in 2003. She made an appearance on UPN’s “One on One” in 2004, and the following year she co-starred with Chris Evans in the film “Fantastic Four.”
