Actor Matthew Perry, who starred in the hit U.S. sitcom “Friends” in the ’90s as the witty Chandler Bing, supposedly drowned in a hot tub on Saturday.

The body of the American-Canadian actor was discovered in his Los Angeles home’s jacuzzi. In a statement posted to social media platform X, NBC, which aired “Friends” for a decade, accepted his death. A number of famous people and celebrities expressed their sorrow at the news.
Actor Mira Sorvino said on X: “Oh no!!! Matthew Perry!! You sweet, troubled soul!! May you find and happiness in Heaven, making everyone laugh with your singular wit!!!”
The death of Perry has been described as “shocking and saddening” by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a former schoolmate of Perry’s in Ottawa. He was 54.
“I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them,” Trudeau said on X. “Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed.”

NBC News reported that Perry was discovered dead at his Pacific Palisades home, citing an anonymous Perry spokesman and a law enforcement source.

On October 23, Perry shared his final Instagram picture, a snapshot of himself relaxing in what appears to be a pool or jacuzzi at night, alongside the caption, “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good?” Mattman here.

The long-running NBC sitcom “Friends,” which starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow, was Perry’s claim to fame. The show ran for a total of ten seasons, from 1994 to 2004.

All six actors who played friends who hang out at each other’s apartments and at “Central Perk,” a made-up Manhattan cafe, became household names across the world thanks to the show. One of the main plot lines involves a secret affair between Chandler and Cox’s character, Monica Geller, which is gradually revealed to the other four friends (Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, and Ross). They end up getting married.
