After a long battle with mental illness, Naomi Judd, half of the legendary country music duet The Judds, reportedly took her own life.
Wynonna and Ashley, Naomi’s daughters, stated in a statement posted on Saturday that they had lost their mother to “the disease of mental illness.
The 76-year-old country music icon committed suicide, according to various sources, who informed People on Monday. There were no other details given.
Representatives for the singers have been contacted by the New York Post.
Larry Strickland, Naomi’s 32-year-old husband, had also delivered a statement earlier. “The family of Naomi Judd asks for privacy at this difficult time. This is the last we’ll hear from him on the subject.”
This past Sunday, the 57-year-old duo of Naomi and Wynonna Earhardt were inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Country Music Association.
In Nashville, Wynonna said, “I didn’t prepare anything tonight because I knew Mom would probably talk the most,” shedding tears in front of the audience. In the past, Naomi had been open about her mental health issues. On “Good Morning America” in 2016, she talked about her struggles with “intense” and “severe” depression, which had left her housebound.
